Lately I've been listening to podcasts and audible books quite a bit more than reading actual books, but I am trying to get back into actual books and reading before bed because it is definitely more relaxing and sleep inducing than scrolling through Instagram or watching SVU...
Ok so this is the most recent podcast I have been binge listening to - Up and Vanished with Payne Lindsey. It is similar to Serial in that it is investigatory and focuses on one case. Payne Lindsey investigates the disappearance and probable murder of Tara Grinstead in Oscilla Georgia back in 2005. It is very well done and extremely interesting. If you love true crime, or were a Serial fan, this is a must listen! I am not even finished and I continually have to stop myself from googling current updates.
Forever 35 is a completely different and lovely podcast by two women: Dorree Shafrir and Kate Spencer, and they talk about a lot of self care, beauty, and essentially all things great for you. It is like chatting with you girlfriends and learning along with them. They admit that they are not experts but they have great guests and ask great questions. I always feel good after listening and I love their recommendations.
Ok talk about a twisty thriller (my favorite kind of read). I listened to this one on audible. I really find myself listening almost exclusively on audible these days! It's just so freaking handy when I'm in the car, grocery shopping, vacuuming, whatever, to just pop in my new Apple Airpods and throw on my book. I get so much more "reading" done as opposed to sitting down and reading an actual hard copy. So this one was one that was on one of my favorite bloggers Grace's (of The Stripe) reading lists. She loved it so much and we have the same taste in books, I figured I had to read it. She does a great job with her review, but in short, it focuses on a woman who lives in Manhattan and frequently looks out over her neighbors. A new family moves to town and things start happening that she couldn't have expected. There are SO many unexpected twists I could not stop listening to this one. So good.
This is another podcast that I just finished that is also hosted by Payne Lindsey of Up and Vanished. I actually liked Up and Vanished a bit better, but this one was super interesting. I started off thinking it was going to be a sort of Serial/Making a Murderer type wrongful conviction podcast, then it had me thinking it was simply a story of these child killings in Atlanta. By the end of the podcast, you seriously do not know what to think, although I do have my opinions on it. I won't give anything away as this was an awesome listen.
As you can see I have pretty specific taste, but I am always open to different genres (sort of :). If anyone has any recommendations, I'd LOVE to hear them!
